Methodology: Cultural heritage is approached from various authors to understand its definition and importance. Also, methods are highlighted such as: pluralize the past; from the particular to the universal; heritage as a process oriented through dialogue; dynamic heritage; verbalization versus silence, among others. A comparison is made with the Guatemalan case as a guide and example for Colombia regarding the construction of peace through cultural heritage. Similarly, national experiences such as the House of Memory Museum and the San Jacinto Community Museum are contemplated. Conclusions: Understanding the potential of cultural heritage is an important step to complement the work done in favor of the construction of memory, transitional justice, truth and reparation, guarantees of non-repetition and, above all, the need for national reconciliation. Originality: The article reviews the regulations and contributions, not only from the cultural heritage, but also from the post-conflict policies to contribute to the construction of peace. a17948886 (ISSN)
