The Study objects are female shamans’s life in Seoul. The positions and the roles of the female shamans in their family are observed, and the reasons of changes on their roles are analyzed. Traditionally, when one of family member becomes a shaman, she has been persecuted or expelled from her family. But recently, new cases are observed. This study object is process of female shamans get new status, ‘daughter’ and ‘wife’ and ‘daughter-in-law’ in her family. And find the reasons of changes. Study period is 2004 to 2014. Researching methods are fieldwork, interview. And review for books of female shaman’s life. That’s results are follows. Traditionally, if a woman become a shaman, her family persecutes or expels her. If she become a shaman in the shaman’s family, the family accepts her changes. That case, she inherits her family’s business. Her family works in cooperation with a new female shaman. If a married woman become a shaman, she is divorced from her husband or she lives with her husband. If a married woman is divorced from her husband, she lose her position of ‘mother’ and ‘wife’ in her family. If a married woman live with her husband, her husband disregards or accepts his wife’s changing. If her husband accept his wife’s changing, he helps his wife’s work. In this case, the female shaman doesn’t lose her position(‘mother’, ‘wife’) in her family. And she employs a nanny and a housekeeper.Another case is that a female shaman is a daughter-in-law. That case is the shaman family. If a woman is female shaman, she accepts a female shaman as her daughter-in-law. The daughter-in-law gains recognition to her new family (her marriage family). In that case, she works in the group of shamans. She has the position of ‘a daughter-in-law’ and ‘a female shaman’ simultaneously.Analysis shows the cause of the results as economical, social and cultural aspects. As economical aspects, the social-class was disappeared and the importance of capital appears. And female shamans accumulates capital and they can move to economic high class. And they make that their children become a prestigious school student or get specialized job by their capital. As social and cultural aspects, female shaman’s position in her family changes the traditional image of woman to ‘working mother’ and ‘working wife’.And the social understanding for shamanism is improved as intangible cultural heritage with emphasizing the traditional cultural aspects by law.
