@article{2892, author = {Dong-Hwan Yoo}, title = {A Strategic study on information processing of Buddhist cultural heritage}, abstract = {Since 2000, "historical fantasy", a genre that deals with cultural heritage of regions and peoples, has created a worldwide sensation. The popularity of this genre called "faction" in Korea has allowed us to recognize the true value of cultural heritage. In Korea, the Buddhist heritage could be called a "cultural treasure-trove", since it takes the biggest part of the country s whole cultural heritage. We thus need to find ways to make use of this heritage in an attempt to better preserve it. In other words, we need to transform the country s Buddhist heritage preserved in temples and museums into cultural content so that people from all around the world can love and enjoy it. However, the Buddhist heritage shares the same vulnerability with all the other categories of cultural heritage. That is, it is likely to be destroyed, lost and altered in the process of preservation. This vulnerability of cultural heritage affects information gathering, reprocessing, exhibition and experience. Above all, it is very difficult to find historical evidence to restore a cultural archetype torn into pieces. On the other hand, the Buddhist heritage has unique objects for cultural content. First and foremost, as for tangible heritage, there are temples, towers and statues, which constitute sets and items of cultural content. Second, folk heritage, including lifestyle, industry and faith, shows monks daily lives and ascetic exercises. This heritage is also important in that it expresses characters lives through cultural content. Third, in the case of intangible heritage such as sounds, gestures and technologies, Buddhism boasts its solemn ceremonies that are both artistic and attractive. Lastly, documentary heritage also appears in Buddhism: highly rich buddhist texts contain the archetype of fantasy scenario. These objects of the Buddhist heritage turn into cultural content after going through several steps: first, digitizing, second, archiving, third, restorology and fourth, experience. If digital restorology is applied in this process to make sure that detailed historical evidence is found to restore a cultural archetype, world-class killer content is born. Finally, I classified cases of the Buddhist heritage transformed into cultural content: the first category is "infrastructure" (for example, database) and the second one is "content" (for example, movies and animation). Through this research, I tried to demonstrate that we need to expand infrastructure and nurture content experts.}, year = {2008}, journal = {Bulgyo hagbo}, volume = {50}, pages = {151-177}, issn = {1226-1386}, }
